Kingdom of Mustang in 18 Days

• Arrival at the airport according to your flight schedule and transfer to the hotel (Kathmandu Prince Hotel or equivalent).
•  Introduction, briefing on the trek with the guide.
•  Lunch and dinner on your own. 
• Overnight at the hotel.

• Breakfast at the hotel followed by a guided tour with a cultural guide in the Kathmandu Valley (from 9 am to 4 pm): Pashupatinath, Patan, and Boudhanath. Transport and guide service included. 
• Site entrance fees are to be paid on-site.
•  Meanwhile, we take care of formalities and the trek permit for Mustang.
•  Lunch and dinner on your own. 
• Overnight at the hotel.

• Early departure accompanied by your guide in a tourist bus to Pokhara. 
• Check-in at Hotel Glory Garden
•  Free evening in Pokhara. 
• Overnight at the hotel.

• Trek begins. 
• A 20-minute flight to Jomsom (2720 m). 
• Ascend along the Kali Gandaki, at the foot of Nilgiris (7061 m). 
• Arrival in Kagbeni (2800 m), a beautiful fortified village with Tibetan architecture. 
• Overnight in a lodge. 
• 3 hours of trekking. 

Note: The flight to Jomsom is subject to weather conditions. It may be delayed or postponed to the next day. If the flight is canceled, the alternative is to take a private minibus by road (a long and tiring journey).

• Enter Mustang Ascend and descend on a path where mule convoys transporting goods are encountered. 
• On the western bank of the river, you can see Gompa Kang and some caves. Unlike most monasteries in Upper Mustang, Gompa Kang belongs to the Nyingmapa order.
•  Here, you'll find the first black, white, and red Chortens (funerary monuments) characteristic of Upper Mustang. 
• Pass through the village of Chuksang, characterized by its narrow winding alleys.
•  Overnight in a lodge. 6 hours of trekking.

• Climb along the ridge to the village of Samar (3400 m). 
• Using the trail, reach a massive red rock fallen from the cliffs, forming a tunnel through which the river flows. 
• An iron bridge spans the river just in front of the tunnel. Further north, the Kali Gandaki becomes impassable on foot.
•  Then cross the Baga La (3700 m) and Yamdo La (3900 m) passes. 
• Most houses along the route have sheep horns above their doors and ghost traps. 
• From the passes, enjoy superb views of Nilgiri and Tilicho. 
• Overnight in a lodge. 5 to 6 hours of trekking.

• Depart from Shyang Mochen, a tiny village, to descend to Gheling and visit the village. 
• Then climb to the Nyi La pass (3990 m). 
• Cross the Ghami La pass (3520 m) and descend to the village of Ghami sheltered by an overhanging cliff. 
• A 500-year-old monastery is established in Ghami.
•  Overnight in a lodge. 
• 5 to 6 hours of trekking.

• Rest day and stroll. Leaving the village, walk along a large wall of mani (stacked stones engraved with a mantra), the largest in Nepal (240 m long). 
• An hour and a half of walking take you to the village of Dhakmar at the base of large red cliffs, one of the most beautiful landscapes in Mustang. 
• As in all villages in Mustang, most houses are built with mud and stones, with roofs made of twigs, straw, and a mix of mud and stones, usually painted in white or ochre. 
• Overnight in a lodge.
•  1 hour and 30 minutes of walking.

• Depart from Drakmar. In the red cliffs, small cave openings high in the cliffs are visible; it is believed to date back to ancient funeral rites of a mysterious past, but these caves are inaccessible. 
• Pass through the plain of prayers and its chortens to reach the mythical city of Lo Manthang, dominated by the ancient fort and offering a view of Tibet in the background. 
• Overnight in a lodge.
•  5 to 6 hours of trekking.

• Visit and explore Lo Manthang, the royal city: the four-story palace of the king, the interior of the city walls with intertwined houses forming labyrinthine alleys, several monasteries (two dating back to the 15th century), the palace of the current king, and some chortens.
•  The 1200 inhabitants of the capital have been living to the rhythm of the seasons for several generations. 
• You find yourself immersed in the heart of the Middle Ages.
•  Nights in Lo Manthang

• Departure from Lo Manthang to Tsarang, passing several very ancient chortens.
•  Continue to Tsarang amid fields of barley, mustard, and buckwheat. 
• Discover the monastery built on the mountainside, featuring beautiful paintings on the walls inside.
•  Overnight in a lodge. 
• 5 hours of trekking.

• Depart for Gheling. Whitewashed houses scattered amid fields, protected trees, and above the village, the Gompa, a beautiful monastery and superb views of the slopes of Nilgiri and Tilicho.
• Overnight in a lodge.
• 5 hours of trekking.

• Depart for Chusang. 
• The terrain becomes arid, and we reach the confluence of the Narshang Khola and Kali Gandaki rivers.
•  A little distance from the village, you can see the remains of an ancient fort. 
• Overnight in a lodge.
•  6 to 7 hours of trekking.

• Walk towards Jomsom via Kagbeni.
•  Overnight in a lodge. 
• 7 hours of trekking.

• End of the trek. 
• Early departure to reach Pokhara by plane (flight subject to weather conditions), which may be delayed. 
• Arrival in Pokhara, relaxation around the lake, overnight at the hotel. 
• Lunch and dinner on your own in Pokhara.

• Return by tourist bus (or optional flight). 
• Breakfast at the hotel, lunch, and dinner on your own. 
• Overnight at the hotel.
