Overview
The Annapurna Grand Tour began in 1977 when the Manang Valley was opened by the Nepalese government. Prior to that, this valley was closed due to its proximity to the Tibetan border. Since then, this trek has gained significance and popularity, offering a diverse exploration of landscapes and ethnic cultures. Throughout the journey, regular interactions with villagers and breathtaking panoramas from high peaks enrich the experience.
On the Annapurna Grand Tour, from Thorong La to Poon Hill, you traverse fertile lands and low-altitude rice paddies dominated by Hindus, gradually ascending into the "hills" to reach Manang on the northern side of Annapurna, immersed in the world of high mountains and Tibetan Buddhism. Crossing the Thorong La pass (5416 m) adds excitement and makes the adventure unforgettable. After crossing the pass, the deep Kali Gandaki Valley unfolds before you, offering new discoveries of landscapes and villages to complete your Annapurna journey. During your trek, you pass through beautiful rhododendron forests around Ghorepani and witness the sunrise from Poon Hill, providing a magnificent view of the Annapurna range.
